Let’s get you
connected.
Your phone, your TV, and the same Wi-Fi. Start there.

Your first connection
- Install Apple’s TestFlight app, then open Tellie’s public beta link on an iPhone or iPad running iOS/iPadOS 26 or later. The build becomes available after Apple’s beta review.
- Connect the phone and a compatible TV to the same home Wi-Fi. Guest networks, access-point isolation, and some VPNs can prevent discovery.
- Open Tellie and allow Local Network access. Tap the TV picker on the Remote screen and select your TV. If discovery fails, use the manual IP option with the address shown in your TV’s network settings.
- On Samsung or LG, approve the connection on the TV with its physical remote. Tellie shows a setup guide while waiting.
Common questions
Which TVs work with Tellie?
Roku TVs and players are the primary tested devices. Samsung Tizen (generally 2016 onward) and LG webOS (generally 2014 onward) are experimental: implementation has been checked against local test servers but still needs testing on real TVs. Model and firmware compatibility varies. Apple TV, Fire TV, Google TV, Sony, and Vizio are not supported.
Tellie cannot find my TV.
Make sure the TV is on, both devices are on the same home network, and local network access is enabled for Tellie in iOS Settings. Temporarily disconnect a VPN or guest Wi-Fi if it isolates devices. Try the TV’s local IP address in the manual connection option. A sleeping TV may not respond.
My Roku connects, but buttons do nothing.
On the Roku, open Settings → System → Advanced system settings → Control by mobile apps → Network access and choose Default. Limited mode can block remote commands and the installed-app list. Then reconnect Tellie.
Samsung or LG keeps asking for permission.
Use the TV’s physical remote to choose Allow. Keep both devices on the same network. If pairing fails, forget the TV in Tellie and pair again. Let us know your model, firmware, and the exact prompt; these platforms are experimental.
Can Tellie turn on my TV?
Turning on a sleeping TV depends on model and network settings. Samsung and LG power-on through Wake-on-LAN is not implemented. Roku power behavior varies. Turning off asks for confirmation.
Why do text entry, volume, or app launching behave differently?
TV protocols and individual apps support different commands. Volume may be unavailable on a Roku player connected to a separate TV. Text input works only in compatible fields. Samsung currently does not expose an installed-app list or live now-playing status to Tellie. Favourite playback requires YouTube on the TV; some models may open the app without starting the requested video.
How do I use widgets, Control Center, and Siri?
Open Tellie and connect to a TV first. Add Tellie controls using Control Center’s edit interface, or add Tellie widgets when customizing your Lock Screen. Tap Lock Screen on Tellie’s remote to start a Live Activity. Siri and Shortcuts use the TV selected in Tellie, and your phone still needs network access to it.
How do I remove a TV or a favourite?
In the TV picker, use the TV’s Forget action to remove its saved entry and pairing key. Use the Favourites edit controls to remove saved videos. Pairing permission can also be revoked in your TV settings. There is no Tellie account to delete.
Does Tellie need an internet connection?
Basic remote commands travel directly to your TV over the local network. Loading streaming-app artwork uses Apple’s services, and loading YouTube thumbnails uses Google’s image service. Streaming on the TV requires the TV’s own internet connection and any relevant subscriptions.
Help us make the beta better
Use Send Beta Feedback in TestFlight or email us. Include your Tellie version/build, phone model, iOS version, TV brand/model/firmware, what you expected, and what happened. Screenshots help. Please leave out passwords, pairing codes, account credentials, and your home’s public IP address.
